What is a Guardian Home?  

A Guardian Home is a loving, permanent home for one of our breeding Poodles. Rather than having our breeding dogs spend their lives in kennels, we want them to enjoy everyday family life—with plenty of love, attention, playtime, adventures, and one-on-one companionship.

The Guardian Dog lives with you as your family member while Absolutely Pampered Poodles retains breeding rights for an agreed-upon period of time. We work closely with each Guardian Family throughout the process and are always available for questions and support.

When the dog’s breeding career is complete, we cover the cost of spaying or neutering, and your Poodle remains right where they belong—with you as a beloved family member for the rest of their life.

Is There a Cost Involved to Be a Guardian Home?

There is no purchase price for a dog placed through our Guardian Family Program.

Guardian Families are responsible for the everyday care and expenses they would normally provide for their own dog, including quality food, routine veterinary care and vaccinations, grooming, heartworm and flea/tick prevention, training, exercise, and lots of love and attention.

Absolutely Pampered Poodles is responsible for all approved breeding-related expenses, including health testing and veterinary care directly related to breeding, pregnancy, and delivery.

For our female Guardian Dogs, we also pay the Guardian Family $500 for each successful litter once the puppies have gone to their new homes.

At the completion of the dog’s breeding career, Absolutely Pampered Poodles will cover the cost of spaying or neutering, and your Poodle will remain a beloved member of your family forever.

What Are the Benefits of Being a Guardian Home?

Being a Guardian Family is a special opportunity to welcome one of our carefully selected Poodles into your home without the purchase price, while giving them the loving, permanent family life they deserve.

Our Guardian Families enjoy all the love, companionship, and fun of having their Poodle as their own while also being an important part of the Absolutely Pampered Poodles family and our breeding program.

For our female Guardian Dogs, families receive $500 for each successful litter once the puppies have gone to their new homes. All approved breeding-related expenses are covered by Absolutely Pampered Poodles.

Best of all, once your Poodle’s breeding career is complete, we cover the cost of her spay, and she remains right where she belongs—with you as your forever family member. 

 

What Are The Requirements to Become A Guardian Home?

● Live within approximately 2 1/2 hours of McLeansville, NC, preferably no more than 125 miles away.

 

● Keep your Guardian Dog as an indoor family dog and never leave them outside unattended for extended periods.

 

● Not have another intact (unspayed or unneutered) dog living in the home.

 

● Provide quality food, routine veterinary care, vaccinations, heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and regular professional grooming.

 

● Provide proper training, exercise, socialization, and plenty of love and attention.

 

● Have reliable transportation and be willing to bring or meet your Guardian Dog to Absolutely Pampered Poodles when needed for breeding-related appointments.

 

● Contact us immediately when a female Guardian Dog begins her heat cycle.

 

● Stay in regular communication with us and provide periodic photos and updates so we can continue to follow her development and well-being.

Most importantly, we are looking for families who understand that this is their Poodle’s forever home. Although she will remain part of our breeding program for a limited period of time, she is your cherished family member from the day she joins your home through her retirement and beyond.

How Does The Guardian Home Program Work?

Most of the dogs available through our Guardian Home Program are females, although we may occasionally have a male available.

Guardian Dogs may be placed as puppies or as young adults. Once placed, your Poodle lives with you as a cherished member of your family while remaining part of the Absolutely Pampered Poodles breeding program for an agreed-upon period of time.

For puppies entering our program, we complete the appropriate genetic and health testing as they mature. If, for any reason, we determine that a Guardian Dog should not enter or continue in our breeding program, we will cover the cost of having the dog spayed or neutered, and they will remain with their Guardian Family as their forever pet.

When a female begins her heat cycle, her Guardian Family must contact us right away so we can coordinate breeding and any necessary appointments.

Once bred, she will continue living at home with her Guardian Family during the majority of her pregnancy. She will return to Absolutely Pampered Poodles shortly before her expected delivery and remain with us while she gives birth and raises her puppies. Mama will typically return to her Guardian Family when her puppies are approximately 6 weeks old.

We encourage our Guardian Families to stay connected while Mama is with us. Scheduled visits are welcome once the puppies have received their first vaccinations. 

Throughout the entire program, we work closely with our Guardian Families to make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible for both the family and their Poodle.

How Many Litters Will A Guardian Female Produce?

Every female is different, and her health and well-being will always come first. There is no guarantee that a Guardian Dog will have a specific number of litters.

The number and timing of litters will be determined individually based on her age, overall health, reproductive history, veterinary recommendations, and what we feel is best for her.

Once her breeding career is complete, Absolutely Pampered Poodles will cover the cost of her spay, and she will remain with her Guardian Family as their beloved pet for the rest of her life.
